Frequently Asked Questions:

What conditions can be treated with massage therapy?

Massage therapy can positively affect many conditions of overuse, such as tendinitis, “shin splints” and plantar fasciitis. It can effectively address nerve impingement that can cause pain and numbness in arms and legs such as carpal tunnel syndrome, piriformis syndrome and thoracic outlet syndrome. It can also alleviate the discomfort of osteoarthritis and other joint problems by decreasing the tension in the surrounding muscle and increasing blood flow.

Massage Therapy can aleveate:

  • Headaches and migraines
  • ligament sprains
  • and muscle strains

How soon will I see results?

This can vary for a number of reasons but mainly on how much what the patient does in his/her lifestyle to perpetuate the problem and on how long the problem has been there for the patient. Though it can take fewer or more treatments, patients often find they notice some change in their condition in about 3-4 treatments.

Do I need a Doctor's referral?
Not unless your extended health or other company requires one of you to have one in order to get the treatment covered. Otherwise anyone can come, without referrals.

What should I do during the massage therapy treatment?

Patients undress only to the state that they are comfortable. For those seeking therapeutic massage some conditions can cause discomfort during treatment, so it is important to establish what level of pressure and depth of massage is tolerable.  The relaxation of the patient greatly increases the effectiveness of the treatment.

What should I expect after my massage session?

Some patients notice some lightheadedness/dizziness especially with treatment in the neck due to all the toxins being released.  Some will have some soreness, or local tenderness.  Generally this is gone within two days of the treatment. Drink lots of water after a treatment if you experience these symptoms.

Who should get Massage Therapy?

Most anyone can have massage but if you have had any concerning health conditions recently such as heart attack or stroke or acute organ failures or cancer or any others you are uncertain about or concerned about then please check with Jackie when you book your appointment.
